When is the best time to upskill? - C&L ;

There are many factors to consider before deciding on when to upskill. You must consider your position in your company, your responsibilities, desire to learn, and monetary resources. If you are a company deciding on when to upskill your employees, you need to weigh the direct and indirect costs vs the benefits. This article will briefly look at some of the biggest factors to consider before you upskill.

Deciding when to upskill is almost always intrinsically tied to the reason why you want to upskill. For example, if you think that upskilling is not necessary at a particular moment in time, that may not be the best time for you to enrol in a course or two (you might not be receptive to the information if you are not interested in the content or if the content is of no use to you). The most prominent factors that play into someone’s decision to upskill are the following: feeling like your career is stagnant or to prevent stagnation in your job, wanting to adapt to a new position or ever-changing market conditions, wanting to explore better opportunities, and wanting to learn a new skill for your own personal benefit (which in turn will benefit your career and will open new doors for you). If you are a company (or a high-ranking representative in charge of employee / resource development), you need to consider the amount of time available at any given point in a year and the amount of money and resources you have to allocate towards training and development. The ideal time in such a case would be when you have both the time and the resources to spend on training.

C&L Skills Management has training options for individuals and companies alike, no matter the time of year you decide to devote to training or the reason for engaging in training. While we have a set schedule for individuals throughout the year, our company-specific schedules are more flexible and can be initiated at any point during the year.

All our courses are SETA-accredited and registered, and we have dedicated learner support systems and quality content delivery systems.
